MTBA Subway Station (Park Street Station), Boston, MA.

Last night I was planning to go to MIT for some night architectural photography. That trip usually entails a bus ride from my place to Harvard Square and a two stops on the red line from there. Unfortunately, when the bus arrived it displayed the wrong route number so nobody at the bus stop realized it was the bus we were waiting for. Rather than wait the 45 minutes for the next bus, I decided to take the long route requiring a bus ride and two trains. When I arrived at Park Street Station I happened upon a band getting ready to play for the subway goers. Since I had my camera with me, I decided to let a few trains pass me by and took the opportunity for some street photography.

Riverway Park, Boston, MA

I was watching a group of ducks and this one started to bathe himself by splashing water over him. He did this a few times and then stood up and started flapping his wings to shake off the water. I managed to get one good shot while he was doing this.

North End, Boston, MA

This little girl was standing in front of the Paul Revere statute reciting some Paul Revere facts while being filmed by her dad. She was a good sport waiting patiently for her dad to set up the recording equipment and for the area to clear out of tourists who were having their pictures taken in front of the statute.

Frog Pond, Boston Commons, Boston, MA

I spent the afternoon working on street photography and figured I might find something worth shooting at Frog Pond, which becomes an ice skating rink in the winter. I had never been there before while people were skating so it was something new for me to check out as well. I was only there about ten minutes before they temporarily closed the rink to resurface it but I did manage one decent capture during that time.

Boston, MA

Since we’ve hardly had any snow in Boston this winter, the ice covering the Charles River (well almost covering – it’s been a warm winter) is clear and free of snow making for a nice reflective surface for the city lights at night.

Cambridge, MA.

I see this sign every day across the river on my bus ride home from school and have been wanting to photograph it. I finally decided to spend a night wandering around with my camera and tripod for some night photography and made sure to stop by the gas station. I settled in across the street with the camera near the ground and coordinated shooting when traffic was moving through the intersection and the sign was fully lit (the sign cycled through various stages of lighting). The end result was a series of light trails with the sign fully lit in the background.

Greenlake, Seattle, WA.

Near the end of my walk around the lake I came upon this great blue heron just standing one-legged on a log. It didn’t seem concerned that I was nearby and just stood there as I approached to the edge of the water, about fifteen feet away, to take this picture.

Downtown, Seattle, WA.

This was taken very late one night from the Pine Street overpass above I-5 looking south towards the Washington State Convention Center. After converting the photo to black and white I decided a touch of color would be nice so I reprocessed it leaving the light trails from the traffic in color.

This was the last picture I took of Seattle during my recent trip back. I wanted to capture downtown in some way and thought Nordstrom’s flagship store would make a good focal point for the shot. I set up my camera and tripod on the edge of the sidewalk across the street. As I was taking pictures of the intersection and pedestrians a bus passed alongside me. I continued shooting and captured the blurred motion of the bus. The bus blocked the intersection and pedestrians but left the Nordstrom sign visible and turned the image into something more interesting than what I was originally shooting.

Downtown, Seattle, WA.

I was planning to shoot (with a camera) something on Capital Hill this night but as I was roaming around I noticed the Paramount marquee all lit up down the hill and decided that was worth a visit. As I walked down I saw a crowd of people on the corner and a line of taxis. I set up quickly in the street to get the angle I wanted and began shooting. It turned out that I was lucky as the marquee was turned off just a couple minutes after I took this shot.
